Spiraled Spires was composed for the saxophonist
Ava Oaxaca. Ava likes altissimo, so the saxophone enters on a note well into its altissimo, from which it falls vertiginously. These descents, along with many tall chords in the piano, give the piece the latter part of its title, while the profusion of rapid swirling figures gives the title its former part.
